Intimate Champagne and Chocolate Getaway

Barcelona Private Wine Tour 05

Spend a relaxed day with us away from the bustling city and discover Cava & Chocolate – a local tradition.

We will visit picturesque Sant Sadurni just 45 minutes outside of Barcelona in the famous Penedès wine region. When arriving at the train station we are greeted by the smell of freshly roasted cocoa beans. This quiet market town is not only home of the best Catalan chocolate maker but also the center of Cava production – the local sparkling wine made according to the same method and quality as French Champagne.

A short 10 minutes walk will lead us to an artisan Cava maker. With a history spanning more than 150 years this small scale, family run winery focuses on crafting premium quality, organic Cava. Descending into the cellars where the bottles are resting we will explain the history & methods used to create high quality sparkling wine. Upstairs we will have the chance to observe the disgorging & labelling process. We finish this experience in the leafy courtyard where we will take our time to enjoy various vintages while learning more about the different types of Cava.

It is possible to have a delicious four course lunch in the best restaurant in the center of the village. This is an option that is not included in the price of the tour.

After a stroll through the village’s narrow streets we arrive to the chocolate factory with a tradition of 175 years. Here we will enjoy a unique experience for all five senses. Not only will we learn about cocoa, chocolate’s history & culture but also taste their different specialties.

I attended this trip with my two daughters (19 and 24). We all loved it so much! Learned extensively about the small-batch cava production, as well as the history of cava itself. The visit is in a town that produces 90% of the world’s cava; very historical and interesting. After we viewed the production and storage areas (as well as some historical artifacts), we had the opportunity to sit in the most beautiful, leafy courtyard and linger over cava tastings. Every cava was delicious. Christian and Michael had separated us into two groups, because so many people had signed up (they intentionally keep the groups small). We were just six people with Christian, and it was lovely to sit, chat, learn about each other while tasting. After tasting, we walked to a restaurant in town, where we were each able to select our own choices for 3 courses. The food was delicious, and this was a fun experience also – further talking about the region, food, and wine while feeling like we were at lunch with friends. After lunch, walked the chocolate factory, where we were able to view and observe the production of this family-owned operation, and then taste as much chocolate as we wanted. I learned the ‘correct’ was to enjoy premium chocolate – let it melt in your mouth instead of biting into it. The chocolate, and the staff, were top-notch. On the train ride back to town, I learned more about Christian, his background and extensive, adventurous travels around the world with Michael. He is super thoughtful, curious, well-informed, down-to-earth, and a wonderful conversationalist. When we all parted ways, he encouraged us to reach out if we had questions or wanted additional recommendations for our remaining days in Barcelona. I really did leave feeling that I had made a new friend. Although I generally always like to try ‘new’ experiences, I would definitely book this again.

What an awesome day! We opted to go early and have lunch first and Christian picked a selection of local Spanish appies that were so good. Doing the tour with him was like spending the day with a good friend. The chocolate is first class and Cava is amazing. Chocolate factory tour is very well done and we loved the quaint, family run winery where everything is so personal. The train trip through beautiful Spanish countryside was very enjoyable. A very fabulous day, you won’t regret booking this tour!

Amazing day! Cava, chocolate and a very knowledgeable tour guide who feels more like an old friend, it doesn’t get any better! Christian has access to a very old Cava House/Cellar and it was just so cool! We felt like VIP’s. After touring the cellars and watching them disgorge and cork the bottles we had a tasting in their beautiful garden . Great great Cava …and many options. We took advantage of the lunch add on and it was spectacular. Delicious and very reasonably priced. Then on to Simon Coll, chocolate chocolate chocolate! I wish I bought more. Very professional tour of their facility and generous tasting . Take this tour, we had a great time learned so much on this delicious day away from the city. Would give it 10 ⭐️ if I could Thank you Christian!
