More than a city: Barcelona Nature Walk

The magnificent mountain range Serra de Collserola rises up over Barcelona Metropolitan Area. It is almost touching the city. For the huge population that lives around these mountains it forms a much-loved and incredibly valuable natural area and a great privilege to enjoy. Collserola is a well-preserved natural area – 22 times bigger than Central Park in New York. Though forest predominates it includes a variety of other plant formations that provide a habitat for valuable biological diversity as well.

Good to know

Do I need a special fitness for this walk?

You should be able to walk a distance of approx. 10 km (6 miles). The tour is mostly downhill as we start on the top of the mountain where we get by public transport.

Is the nature walk suitable for children?

We recommend that children should be at least 8 years old and should be able to walk a distance of approx. 10 km (6 miles). Most of the paths are not suitable for strollers.

What cloths should I wear?

We recommend to wear comfortable shoes for walking a long distance on uneven ground. Also bring a light jacket as we are in a higher altitude and it can be cooler in the shadow of the forest than in downtown Barcelona.

Vincenzo Ruffa (Frosinone/Italy), April 2018:

“I really enjoyed this tour with Chris. Chris is a good and kind guy and very knowledgeable about the history of the area where we were. I really appreciated ruins of the casino, the old monastery in San Cugat and of course the long walk in the nature. We ate tapas in San Cugat, and believe me, after that long walk eat and drink something is like reborn  Thanks a lot Chris for your time, your stories and for the deviation to go on top the Tibidabo!”

Susan Lerner (Indianapolis/USA), April 2018:

“This is a fabulous experience with a stellar tour guide and I highly recommend it. Christian knows Barcelona well and was the perfect guide: he is personable, genial, and it was obvious he wanted the experience to fit my expectations. Taking the train with Christian was a great way to get to know that part of Barcelona’s great public transport system. The hike through Collserola is definitely a “must-see,” and even though the day I picked was misty and some of the views were obscured, Christian made it worthwhile! Collserola is gorgeously green and pastoral and along the way Christian pointed out old churches and ruins that tied in with Barcelona’s history. We took a funicular to the top, hiked across the mountain, then walked into the town of Sant Cugat, a beautiful place not well-known to area tourists. Spending a day touring with Christian was the best decision I could have made. Later in the week I took a different tour with him and the second tour (through the old city) was just as informative and fun. There is no better way to get to know, and enjoy, Barcelona!”
