The Barcelona suburbs like Gràcia or Horta-Guinardó offer a more local view on how Barcelonians live. They are still less touristic than downtown Barcelona. Both suburbs were independent municipalities until the end of the 19th century when Barcelona underwent a massive expansion and annexed its surrounding areas.
The guided walking tour comprises a visit to the Park of the Labyrinth of Horta and the Bunkers of Carmel. Away from the busy tourist routes the park is one of the most beautiful ones in Barcelona. Created in the 18th century for the Catalan nobility it is the oldest park in Barcelona.
From the park it takes a good 5 km (3 miles) walk to the Bunkers del Carmel on top of the Turó hill- The bunkers were part of the anti-aircraft battery during the Spanish Civil War and now offer spectacular views over Barcelona.
